FOUNTAIN PEN ANATOMY

MATERIAL TYPES

  • Aluminum: 100% 6061-T6 Grade Aluminum
  • Stainless Steel: Grade 304: an alloy containing approximately 8% nickel.
  • Titanium: Type Ti-6Al-4V (Grade 5) with TC4 Hardness HRC 36.

ORIGIN

We source materials from multiple countries including the USA to ensure the highest quality at the best price.  We cannot specify location by part type or lot with regard to each unit produced.

PEN GRIP COMPARISON

Anodized aluminum pens and poly-coated stainless steel and titanium pens offer grip compared to our natural, uncoated metal pens. Poly-coat is thicker than the anodized surface and is intended to provide greater grip.

PEN WEIGHT COMPARISON

Standard size pens by weight lightest to heaviest:

  • Aluminum 1.3 oz.
  • Titanium 1.6 oz.
  • Stainless Steel 2.8 oz.

NIB

The nib that comes standard on all of our fountain pens is a Moonman #5 fine point.
This is considered an italic nib, which is rectangular with sharp edges and is suitable for calligraphy, formal lettering, and precise print handwriting.
The sharp edge makes the nib stiffer and scratchier to write with compared to regular nibs. It also requires more ink and can display ink properties like shading, sheen, and shimmer, thanks to the broad, straight lines they create.
Hand position and stroke are required to get the hang of writing with this nib, but it's worth the effort for stylized writing.

The nib is removeable.
We do not sell any other nibs at this time.  We do not research other nibs that may or may not be compatible with our pen.
goldspot.com has a wide variety of fountain nibs available in their online store, we have not tested their products, so we cannot guarantee compatibility.  The company does not retain information about our pens or product compatibility.
Other buyers have informed us that Kaweko fine with 5mm base (leg) works with our pen, but we have not tested this info for certainty.

FOUNTAIN PEN INK

We do not sell the fountain ink cartridges.

The ink cartridge that fits our pen is available in many stores and are inexpensive if bought in bulk.

The fountain pens can take either a disposable cartridge (shown below) or you can use the converter and fill it with ink from a bottle.
Our pens use the international short version ink cartridge.
Be sure to purchase cartridges with width of 6.2mm so it fits snuggly in the barrel.

FILLING THE PISTON-STYLE INK CONVERTER

We are in the process of developing our tutorial on how to use our fountain pens.  In the meantime, we found this video tutorial that we believe works best to describe both the cartridge and pistol-style converter that comes installed on the fountain pen.

Cartridge tutorial starts at :30 seconds.
Piston-style converter tutorial starts at 2:05.

CAP POSTING

There is no cap posting available for the fountain pen.  The cap is not designed to sit atop the upper portion of barrel.  We believe that cap posting alters the balance and affects grip.
